The Seventeenth Session of the Council of Ministers of African Regional Intellectual Property Organization (ARIPO) started today in the Margibi County of Liberia. Opening the session, the Director General of ARIPO, Mr. Fernando Dos Santos said the Council has over the years provided guidelines to ARIPO secretariat for the development of the IP system in the ARIPO regions. He highlighted some achievements namely: capacity building in Masters of IP, the WAO Agreement with World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO ) and OAPI in respect of innovation and value addition for business. According to him, a plan of action was adopted during the Harare Conference in November 2019, as emphasized by the representative of WIPO Director General, Mr. Sery-Kore, who said the tripartite agreement will develop more coherent, appropriate and practical response to the need of the African continent.

He said African decision makers should promote IP in linking IP and innovation to create a good setting for Africa business.

Taking the floor, the Director General of OAPI, Mr Denis Bohoussou said the protocol on the African Continental Free Trade Area has been signed and discussions on the various implementing texts will be conducted under the auspices of the African Union. It is necessary therefore that OAPI and ARIPO be able to shed light on the development of this protocol, which will have an impact on their activities. The two Organizations count on the support of their governing bodies for their admission to the negotiations on the draft protocol. He added that OAPI and ARIPO adopted the terms of reference in Harare in July 2019 in a view to harmonize their procedures.

We had speakers from Japan Patent Office, UPOV, Intellectual Property Office of Singapore, AFSTA and others.

The Chairman of the Council of Ministers, Honourable Bright MSAKA, Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs of the Republic of Malawi, also highlighted the WAO Conference that held in Harare, saying Africa has talents in innovation and entrepreneurship, and we need to reach out to the innovators, Universities, SMEs, research centres and others.

The Guest of honour, Honourable Milton Finley, Minister of foreign affairs of Liberia said Liberia will continue to provide full support to their IP Office so they can ratify more instruments. He said African Governments must develop policies that are favourable to IP to bring creators and other actors under one umbrella, thereby making a visible source for revenue flow. He wished the meeting successful deliberations.

Le ministère du Commerce et de l’Industrie organise la cérémonie de lancement du processus de reconnaissance de l’Attiéké des Lagunes et des Pagnes Baoulés en Indications Géographiques Protégées (IGP). Cette cérémonie se tient le samedi 23 novembre 2019 à 9 h 30 minutes, à la salle café du bloc administratif du SARA sis à Port-Bouët à Abidjan, sous la présidence du Ministre Souleymane DIARRASSOUBA, en présence d’autres membres du Gouvernement et du Directeur Général de l’Organisation Africaine de la Propriété Intellectuelle (OAPI).

Le Siège de l’Organisation Africaine de la Propriété Intellectuelle a abrité ce vendredi 08 novembre 2019, la cérémonie de clôture de la formation Intermédiaire en propriété Intellectuelle. Mme Eliane POSSO Directeur de la Prospective et de la Coopération et représentante du Directeur Général qui a présidé l’événement a adressé dans son discours un message de félicitations aux différents auditeurs.

« Vous avez réussi un pari, celui de vous immerger dans la dimension théorique de la propriété intellectuelle pour éclairer davantage votre pratique professionnelle. A tous je voudrais dire toutes nos félicitations et nos vifs encouragements » a-t-elle dit.

Pendant quatre semaines, les auditeurs venus des Etats membres de l’OAPI se sont familiarisés à la propriété intellectuelle dans sa double dimension, à savoir la Propriété Industrielle et la Propriété Littéraire et Artistique.

M. IBOMBO Omer, délégué des auditeurs, a adressé un message de remerciements à la direction générale de l’OAPI pour toutes les connaissances acquises et la disponibilité de son personnel pendant leur séjour.

C’est donc avec une mission qu’ils ont pris congé de l’OAPI, celle de Promouvoir la propriété intellectuelle dans leurs différents pays.

La capitale du Zimbabwe abrite depuis ce matin, 6 novembre 2019, la Conférence OMPI/ARIPO/OAPI sur la propriété intellectuelle, l’innovation et la valeur ajoutée pour la compétitivité des entreprises de développement durable en Afrique.
Cette conférence qui se déroulera jusqu’au 8 novembre 2019 à Harare, s’est ouverte avec la participation des hautes autorités de l’Organisation Mondiale de la Propriété intellectuelle (OMPI), de l’African Regional Intellectual Property Organisation (ARIPO) et de nombreux Ministres du Zimbabwe.

Des allocutions de ces hôtes de marque ont ponctué la cérémonie d’ouverture, notamment celle de, Madame Atcha DJIBRINE SY, Ministre du Développement Industriel, Commercial et de la Promotion du secteur privé de la République du Tchad, Président du Conseil d’Administration de l’OAPI, et de Monsieur Denis BOHOUSSOU, Directeur Général de l’OAPI.

Cette importante rencontre vise à aboutir sur une feuille de route et un plan d‘action sur cinq ans concernant l’utilisation efficace de la propriété intellectuelle et de l’innovation, afin d’établir un écosystème avancé de l’innovation en Afrique.
